What is Qigong?

The Qi in qigong means air in Chinese, and, by extension, life force, dynamic energy or even cosmic breath.

Gong means work applied to a discipline or the resultant level of skill, so qigong is thus breath work or energy work.

Qigong refers to a wide variety of traditional cultivation practices that involve methods of accumulating, circulating, and working with Qi or energy within the body.

Qigong is alsio a set of visualizations accompanied by gentle physical movements. Practitioners of Qigong develop an awareness of Qi sensations (energy) in their body and use their mind to guide the Qi. When the practitioners achieve a sufficient skill level (master), they can direct or emit external Qi (“matter” of the universe) for the purpose of healing others.

For thousands of years, millions of people have benefited from Qigong practices and believed that improving the function of Qi maintains health and heals disease. In traditional Chinese medicine, good health is a result of a free flowing, well-balanced energy system. It is believed that regular practice of Qigong helps to cleanse the body of toxins, restore energy, reduce stress and anxiety, and help individuals maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Qigong refers to disciplines cultivating living energy to achieve optimal physical functionality inherent in each person. This achieves the objectives of cleansing the body and the mind, restoring energy, and opening up the patient's physical and mental potentials, thereby strengthening the body mechanism and promoting the circulation and supply of Qi and blood. As a result, Qigong is therefore also a very effective self-healing practice for patients of various illnesses.
